About Me
Hi, I’m Donovan Simpkin — husband, father of two, and owner of Divine Productions Films. I never leave the house without a couple of coffees to kickstart the day. I’ve been fascinated by creativity and technology for as long as I can remember. I was that kid pulling the VCR apart just to see how it worked. Drawing on a computer, animating, and later coding my own games taught me to think visually and technically at the same time. As fun as crazy animations are, what I really love is capturing real moments, unpredictable, messy, beautiful moments that no animation can replicate.
I got into videography because I regretted not having my own wedding captured the way I wanted. Picking up a camera quickly became a passion. What started as filming for friends and family evolved into a love of documenting once-in-a-lifetime moments: the vows, the laughter, the quiet glances, and the little chaos that makes every day unique.
I notice the small things — the fleeting smiles, the way light hits a room, the tiny details that make a scene feel alive. Music can sometimes set the tone, but it’s really the moment itself that drives me.
I often shoot solo, but my son joins me on weddings and shoots whenever possible, an extra set of eyes and hands, and a reminder not to take myself too seriously. Over the years, I’ve expanded beyond weddings into brand films, creative projects, and events, but my approach remains the same: observe, capture, and craft authentic stories that resonate.
For weddings, I take a natural, unobtrusive approach, letting the day flow and capturing real, unscripted moments. For brands and businesses, I focus on visually striking, memorable content that highlights what makes them stand out. Outside of work, I’m a storyteller, a tech nerd, a gadget tinkerer, and someone who finds humour in unexpected places — because the best stories make you feel something, or laugh, or both.
If you want someone who notices the small details, values real moments, and brings heart, humour, and a sense of curiosity to every project, let’s chat. Whether it’s a wedding, a brand film, or just capturing a slice of life, I’d love to help bring your vision to life — cameras ready, coffee gone, and slightly caffeinated.
